Vestibular Autorotation Test
(VAT®) accurately evaluates the vestibulo-ocular
reflex (VOR) at head speeds of 2-6 Hz, the range of
everyday
head motion. Through a series of 18 second tests that can be performed
by any staff member, VAT®
graphically represents
Gain, Phase and Symmetry through its intuitive software interface.
Patients
experiencing dizziness, vertigo or motion sickness as well as patients
with difficulty maintaining their balance can be diagnosed in under 30
minutes using VAT®.
Once the underlying cause(s) of dizziness or balance disorders are
identified, VAT® can be used to monitor patient rehabilitation.

Gain, Phase and Symmetry
GAIN:
Eye velocity amplitude divided by head velocity amplitude.
If you look straight ahead at a spot or target, and move your head to
the right, your eyes will move to the left at the same angle and at the
same speed.
PHASE: (Latency) A
measure of time (in degrees) of the eye velocity relative to the head
velocity. As you move your head back and forth your head and eye
movements should reach the center at the same time.

Why
VAT®?
- VAT® is the only truly portable VOR
diagnostic system on the market
- VAT® samples at much higher speed and
frequency than rotational chair tests (1 Hz versus range of 2 to 6
Hz in VAT®)
- VAT®
was developed by Dr. Dennis and Linda O'Leary and their
collaborators. Dr. O'Leary was the originator of pseudorandom rotary
chair testing, the use of cross-correlation and spectral analysis
for system identification of VOR responses and several other
innovations, including combined rotary chair and optokinetic
testing.
- VAT®
meets ANSI standards, requiring a minimum sampling rate of 500 Hz
-
VAT® can be completed within 30
minutes, can be run by any trained staff member, making it an easy
to use, accurate and billable procedure
